AES Brekkie: The Entry Barrier to Entrepreneurship

11.10.2014 Entrepreneurship, Student Life

Hello you AESome future entrepreneurs you!

This past week, we looked at a documentary called “The Startup Kids (External link)” during our trending event – The AESome Brekkie (External link)!

Make-your-own-sandwich ingredients, juice, coffee and fruit were up for grabs! Once again, a hefty bunch of curious and attentive Arcada students showed up for the breakfast. But, that is not why they stayed. It was The Startup Kids that had them intrigued and glued.

The documentary featured a handful of young entrepreneurs, their struggles and the entry barriers that they overcame to make it big! Despite every personal, professional, economic and technical impediment that was thrown at them by the glamorous but tough world of entrepreneurship, they managed to find innovative ways, that at the time seemed desperate and last ditch, to resolve problems.

A more realistic light was shone on the über-competitive entrepreneurial journeys of tech industry leaders, that more often than not, faced adversity and failures. Pitfalls, tips and tricks of all shapes and forms were discussed in the documentary, that should help us all formulate a more robust strategy for our own endeavors as entrepreneurs. That being said, the very spirit of entrepreneurship lies in embracing challenges and learning from failures.

Thankfully, we have a strong network of people (AES is a group of such a kind) that will help and develop each other by challenging our thought processes and prototypes. What are you waiting for? Grab the entrepreneur next to you and tell her/him what your plans are and how you plan on getting there. You’d be surprised how much you’ll end up learning by simply speaking your thoughts out loud and hopefully getting some feedback.

And, it all started over a breakfast.

Until next time, stay shrewd, fellow AESome people!
